There are only a few lines that were maintained that will show this trait periodically. It comes to this breeding from the Female Giant Schnauzer. She is a true German. This would make a great male for somebody wanting to breed 2nd Generation Giant schnoodles.  

In history, it was this toe that underwent dominant genetic alteration into what we see now on most breeds as the dueclaw. The dueclaw is located higher and without bone in most cases. It addition to the 5th toe, this pup had dueclaws. They have been removed.
